Born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Nathalie Guillaume grew up in a family where music and art played a traditional role. From the legendary Guy Durosier to folk music pioneer Raoul Guillaume, she picked up a sense of independence as a young artist. Winner of the Alliance des Arts International Piano Competition consecutively in 2000 and 2001, she slowly moved from classical to jazz with the help of her father, Philippe Guillaume, who exposed her to incredible contemporary vocalists. She fell in love with their freedom and sentimental moods instantaneously.

Upon her arrival in Miami, Florida in 2002, Nati received artistic and academic scholarships that opened doors to the many worlds she was about to discover. Her musical maturity drove her to express avant-garde emotions through different mediums. Interacting with other musicians in the practice rooms, she indulged in Neo-Soul and Hip-Hop elements that she identified with.

To translate her thoughts in the African Diaspora, she started to write poetry and featured in popular venues with acclaimed poets in the South Florida area. Now a University of Miami graduate, Nati has developed an international flow where she performs in English, French, Creole and Spanish borrowing spirits from all genres of music that lets her improvise in an abstract state of mind. Also a molecular scientist, linguist and trained visual artist in the Saint Soleil movement of late Tiga, this twenty-four year old is a rare reflection of life and captures just that in her very essence.

Having performed from Miami to Boston with Haitian Jazz icons such as the Reginald Policard trio and Strings, her unique style has been compared to jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves and Afro-French duo Les Nubians, blending traditional folk music, poetry and soulful scatting. She has contributed lyrics and production assistance to many up- and-coming Haitian musicians who enjoy world music as much as she does. Fulfilling her true passion for teaching, this graduate student in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine is the creative director for many ongoing after school programs with the YMCA, the Boys & Girls Club and other youth empowering community activities.

Producer and host of the new cable TV series "The Backyard Show" as part of THE BACKYARD MOVEMENT’s mission to reach a new medium, Nati is conscious, creative and never too busy to raise the Haitian community from the misconceptions throughout her endeavors as a lifelong volunteer. Founder of the currently taught Haitian Culture and History courses at her alma mater, she has participated in many panels discussing Haitian culture in its entirety and is currently involved in human interest projects on Haitian Diaspora issues for which she produces sights and sounds in collaboration with various internationally based Haitian artists.
